Lennert Schepers

Lennert Schepers is currently working on EMODnet Biology products and related national and international projects with a focus on (geo)spatial data at Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). He holds a Master degree in Geography (Ugent) and a PhD degree in Sciences (UAntwerpen). He dived from coastal marshes, which he studied during his PhD, into the marine world in 2018 when he started working for the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ).

Paula Oset

Paula Oset currently works as Project Manager at Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) and is responsible for the EMODnet Biology project. She has a background in Marine Science and holds a Master degree in Integrated Coastal Zone Management (University of Cadiz) and in GIS (University of Manchester). She has built up experience in geographic and marine data management at the Wales Coastal Monitoring Centre and at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) Data Centre.

Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ)

Filip Waumans

Filip Waumans was originally trained as biologist, but obtained a Master after Master in informatics from Ghent University in Belgium. He is working for 10 years at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). During that period het gathered knowledge about the different data systems established by VLIZ: Eurobis, World register of Marines Species, Eurobis, Marine regions, Lifewatch… As a PHP developer, he is involved in the maintenance and development of web applications and databases related to these data systems and European projects such as EMODnet. Combining his biological skills and IT skills, he is a middle man between scientists and IT-specialists in VLIZ.

Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ)

Bart Vanhoorne

Bart Vanhoorne has an IT background and 15 years of work experience in the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ).  During MarBEF and follow up projects, Bart developed some experience in (biological) taxonomy. He developed several taxonomic (and related) databases by closely working together with scientists. Further on Bart focused on machine-to-machine communications, and enabled these on all major data systems managed within VLIZ.

Currently, Bart is Manager of the VLIZ IT Division.
