Tina Mertens | EMODnet OPEN SEA LAB

Tina Mertens graduated in 2005 at Ghent University as a civil engineer with a Master Thesis about the potential of wave energy at the Belgian Continental Shelf.

She started her career as coastal manager at the Flemish government responsible for the set-up and implementation of a Master Plan for Coastal Safety. In 2012 she became Vice Director of Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) where she currently oversees the science support of VLIZ towards the international marine research community.

VLIZ supports coastal and marine scientific research in the broadest sense, including logistic support and the provision of tailored scientific data, information, knowledge and insights to the Flemish marine research community, the blue economy and policymakers with regard to marine matters.

Tina is involved in research projects and networks related to marine renewables and coastal protection
